Lafia, M.
I was always fascinated by the history of Los Angeles, by the city itself, how it developed, the hope it held out, how it was hyped to those in the Midwest, the orange grooves and everything, Hollywood, the aerospace industry, the last place on all the planet to migrate as Tim Leary said. I was fascinated by this idea of erasure, and always remember the impression of the line in the Brett Easton Ellis novel, ?Less then Zero? where he mentions a license plate that says ?Disappear Here?. The book was all about disappearance ? falling through the cracks ? at that time I was just out of grad school and I thought LA could be performatively read through the optic of contemporary theory of the time.
