MoMa Tate

In 2001-02 the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Tate Modern thought it a good idea to do an online for profit venture. We approached them and they had heard of the success of artandculture (read reviews here) and agreed to meet. They made an offer to buy artandculture and to make me creative director of this new venture. I was asked to design a schema to put all of their assets on line, for education, curation and so forth. We plotted it out for some six to eight months working as consultants to them, but wisely the Tate decided that an online for profit venture was not good sense. It was however fascinating to get inside the workings of these huge museums and to see how many layers of approvals and rights issues had to be considered to get things done. Believe it or not MoMA does not own the reproduction rights, the image rights to many of their great works.
